Patient Rights, Confidentiality & Medical Ethics

IsraClinic is committed to providing psychiatric care that is clinically sound, ethically responsible, and fully transparent in its relationship with patients. This page sets out the rights of every patient who engages with IsraClinic, the clinic's approach to confidentiality, and the ethical principles that guide all clinical work.

Patient Rights

The rights of patients at IsraClinic are grounded in the Israeli Patient Rights Law (1996) and the ethical standards of the Israeli Medical Association. Every patient — regardless of their country of origin, language, or the nature of their condition — is entitled to the following:

Right to dignity and respect. Every patient has the right to receive care with full respect for their personal dignity, privacy, and cultural identity. All IsraClinic staff — clinical and administrative — are required to maintain this standard in all interactions.

Right to information. Every patient has the right to receive clear, comprehensible information about their condition, the proposed diagnostic process, treatment options, and any significant risks involved. This information is provided in a language the patient understands — Russian, English, or Hebrew.

Right to informed consent. No diagnostic procedure or treatment is carried out without the patient's informed consent. Consent means that the patient has received sufficient information to make a meaningful decision and has agreed voluntarily and without pressure.

Right to refuse treatment. A patient who has the legal and clinical capacity to make decisions has the right to refuse any proposed treatment or diagnostic procedure. IsraClinic will provide clear information about the clinical implications of such a decision.

Right to a second medical opinion. Every patient has the right to seek an independent second opinion on their diagnosis or treatment plan at any stage of care. IsraClinic actively supports this right and can facilitate referral where appropriate.

Right to access medical records. Patients have the right to access their own medical records and clinical documentation. Requests are handled in accordance with Israeli law and clinic procedure.

Right to continuity of care. Patients receiving ongoing treatment have the right to continuity — including access to their clinical history and coordination of care if they transfer to another provider.

Patient Confidentiality

In psychiatry, confidentiality is not only a legal requirement — it is a clinical necessity. The quality of psychiatric care depends on honest, open communication between patient and doctor. This is only possible when patients are confident that their disclosures will be protected.

All information shared with IsraClinic — including identity, diagnosis, treatment history, and the content of clinical sessions — is treated as strictly confidential. It is not disclosed to third parties without the explicit written consent of the patient, except in the specific circumstances required by Israeli law.

Access within the clinic. Only those members of the clinical team directly involved in the patient's care have access to their information. All clinical and administrative staff are bound by strict confidentiality obligations.

Disclosure to family members. No information about a patient's condition or treatment is shared with family members or accompanying persons without the patient's explicit consent, unless the patient lacks the legal capacity to consent and a legally authorised representative has been designated.

Legally required exceptions. Israeli law specifies a limited set of circumstances in which confidentiality may be overridden — primarily situations involving imminent risk to the life of the patient or others, or a court order. In any such situation, IsraClinic acts in full accordance with its legal obligations and, where possible, informs the patient in advance.

Medical Ethics & Clinical Responsibility

Transparency. Patients receive honest information about their diagnosis, the reasoning behind treatment decisions, and any uncertainty in the clinical picture. Clinically relevant information is not minimised, distorted, or withheld.

Proportionality. Treatment is clinically justified and proportionate. Procedures or medications that are not indicated for the specific patient are not recommended. Pharmacotherapy follows the principle of minimally sufficient intervention.

Collegial decision-making. For complex or ambiguous cases, diagnostic and treatment decisions are reviewed collectively by the clinical team. This reduces the risk of error and ensures that multiple clinical perspectives inform the plan.

No conflicts of interest. Clinical recommendations are based solely on the patient's medical needs. IsraClinic does not receive payments or benefits from pharmaceutical companies or other providers that would influence treatment decisions.

Respect for autonomy. The patient's goals, preferences, and values are considered in every clinical decision. Psychiatric treatment involves deeply personal dimensions of a person's life — we work with each patient, not over them.
